Who Are We
We Are A Senior Affordable Housing Community
FOP Senior Citizens Inc is a 501(c)4 organization founded in 1968 for the purpose of designing and construction of a 6 story, 106 unit apartment building for independent seniors aged 62 and older. The project was funded by the federal government through financing provided by US Housing and Urban Development – HUD, for partially subsidized housing for our residents, primarily then for retired police officers, spouses and widows.
Over the years, several improvements and upgrades were completed thru grants from the City of Philadelphia and PA Housing Finance Agency.
The organization is governed by an elected nine (9) member non-compensated Board of Directors, one of whom is generally a resident. The Board is responsible for managing operations of the property, securing the financing and repairs, in addition to promoting an active seniors club membership, providing dinners, socials and other activities.
In 2020 the Board approved seeking additional funding sources from PHFA for Low Income Housing Tax Credits to revitalize and redevelop the property. The PENNROSE Corporation a regional for profit company was selected to lead the redevelopment. As a result, PENNROSE has secured the funding and we are embarking on a new relationship that will serve our residents for the next 50 years.
This includes a complete renovation of the property, the exterior, parking, driveways, sidewalks; elevators, windows, roof, community and recreation rooms, common area improvements and individual unit improvements. This project is expected to kick start in 4th quarter of 2023 and extend into 2025-2026.
Over 90% of our residents are expected to qualify for subsidized housing vouchers to assist with rent payments.
